Builders Mutual
Built for builders. Built in North Carolina.
Overview
Builders Mutual was born out of a crisis in the North Carolina construction industry. In 1984, homebuilders across the state were being priced out of workers' compensation coverage, or couldn't get it at all. The North Carolina Home Builders Association responded by creating a self-insured fund, and eventually the independent mutual insurance company that serves contractors across the Southeast today.
History

Established on May 1st as a self-insured workers' compensation group fund by the North Carolina Home Builders Association, created specifically because standard carriers wouldn't write affordable coverage for builders.

2000s
Expanded from workers' compensation into a full suite of commercial coverage for contractors, including general liability, commercial auto, and umbrella.
2010s
Grew its footprint across the Southeast while maintaining its roots as a builder-focused carrier with deep knowledge of construction risk.
2024
Remains one of the leading commercial insurers for contractors and builders in North Carolina and surrounding states.
