Claims

What to do the moment something goes wrong

Your carrier handles the claim, but your IronHaven agent is the person who picks up when you're not sure what happens next. Here's how to handle the first hour after an accident or home loss.

In an emergency, call 911 first.

Once everyone is safe, your carrier's claims line opens the claim itself. Call IronHaven at (919) 249-8448 any time you want a second set of hands on it.

Auto accident checklist

  1. 1.Make sure everyone is safe, then move to a safe spot if the vehicle is drivable.
  2. 2.Call 911 if there are injuries or the accident blocks traffic, and get a police report when possible.
  3. 3.Photograph all vehicles, license plates, the road/intersection, and any visible damage before anything is moved.
  4. 4.Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver(s) and any witnesses.
  5. 5.Call your carrier's claims line (or your IronHaven agent if you're not sure who to call) the same day.

Home claim checklist

  1. 1.If it's safe, stop further damage: shut off water, tarp a roof, board a broken window.
  2. 2.Photograph the damage before you clean up or start repairs, including close-ups and wide shots of each room.
  3. 3.Make a list of damaged or destroyed items, with approximate age and value.
  4. 4.Keep receipts for any emergency repairs or temporary housing, since these are often reimbursable.
  5. 5.Call your carrier's claims line to open the claim, then call your IronHaven agent if you want help navigating it.

Photos and documentation tips

  • Take more photos than you think you need, from multiple angles and distances.
  • Note the date, time, and weather conditions while they're fresh.
  • Save any repair estimates, receipts, and correspondence with adjusters in one folder.
  • Don't sign anything from a contractor or adjuster you don't fully understand. Call your agent first.

Not sure who to call? Call us first.

Your IronHaven agent can point you to the right carrier claims line, explain what happens next, and stay on the file with you while it's open.
