History
1969
Herbert W. Kaufman founded Burns & Wilcox in Farmington Hills, Michigan, building one of the first large independent wholesale insurance brokerages in the United States.
1980s
Expanded rapidly across North America, opening offices in major markets and building relationships with Lloyd's of London and domestic surplus lines carriers.
1995
Became part of the H.W. Kaufman Group, a global specialty insurance and reinsurance organization spanning multiple companies and markets.
2000s
Grew into the largest independently owned wholesale broker and MGA in North America, writing coverage across every specialty and surplus lines category.
2024
Operates with over 60 offices in North America and international locations, accessing specialty markets for commercial, personal, and professional risk.
