History
1912
Founded as the Massachusetts Employees Insurance Association on July 1st, created specifically to provide workers' compensation insurance following a 1911 state law.
1914
Expanded to New Hampshire and Rhode Island, becoming a New England regional workers' comp carrier.
1936
Entered the personal auto insurance market for the first time, beginning the company's expansion beyond workers' compensation.
1964
Became a true mutual company, owned entirely by its policyholders rather than stockholders.
1975
Expanded internationally into Portugal, beginning what would become a global operation across 30+ countries.
2022
Ranked among the Fortune 100 companies with over 45,000 employees worldwide and $48 billion in annual revenue.
