Overview
RPS, Risk Placement Services, was founded in 1997 with four employees in Chicago and Atlanta. In less than three decades, it has grown through dozens of acquisitions and organic expansion into the largest managing general agency (MGA) in the United States. RPS provides independent agents with access to specialty, admitted, and surplus lines markets across every category of commercial and personal risk.
History
1997
Risk Placement Services opened for business on May 1st as an Illinois corporation with four employees, focused on providing specialty insurance market access for independent agents.
2000s
Began a rapid acquisition strategy, buying top-performing MGAs and program administrators across the country to expand product offerings and market access.
2010s
Grew into the largest independently owned MGA in North America, writing business across binding authority, programs, standard lines, and open brokerage.
2018
Acquired by RSM US, then by Arthur J. Gallagher, bringing additional resources and global market access to the platform.
2024
Operates as the nation's largest MGA with hundreds of offices, thousands of employees, and access to virtually every specialty insurance market in the US.
