Classic & Collector Car Insurance

Classic Chevrolet Camaro insurance in North Carolina

First-gen Camaros are among the most desirable American muscle cars. Z28, SS, COPO, and Yenko variants command serious values that standard policies will not cover correctly.

First-gen Camaro (1967-1969) value guide

The 1967 through 1969 Camaro is the most desirable generation. Values depend significantly on build, documentation, and special order history.

  • ·1967-1969 RS/SS: $40,000 to $80,000 for clean examples
  • ·1969 Z28 (DZ 302): $60,000 to $120,000 documented
  • ·1969 COPO 427: $100,000 to $200,000+
  • ·Yenko Camaro: six-figure territory with documentation

Second-gen Camaro (1970-1981)

Second-gen Camaros are gaining collector traction. Z28 models from 1970 through 1974, before emissions regulations dulled performance, are the most desirable. The 1970 Z28 with the DZ 302 LT1 is particularly sought after.

Values for clean, documented second-gens have risen from $20,000 to $30,000 to $40,000 to $60,000 for top examples over the past five years.

Cooper's take

The first-gen Camaro is one of the cars I'm most careful about in terms of agreed value. Prices have moved fast. A Z28 that was $50,000 five years ago might be $90,000 now. If the owner has never updated their policy, they are carrying $40,000 of uninsured exposure on a car they love.

Frequently asked questions

What documentation makes a COPO Camaro valuable?

COPO (Central Office Production Order) Camaros were factory-ordered with big-block engines through a loophole in GM's displacement restrictions. Documentation through the Camaro Research Group, original window stickers, and build sheets are critical to establishing value. Documented COPO cars are worth dramatically more than undocumented examples.

Is a resto-mod Camaro covered under classic car insurance?

It depends. A heavily modified Camaro may not qualify for standard classic car programs. The modifications need to be disclosed and agreed value adjusted to reflect them. Some specialty carriers cover resto-mods under a separate program.

Does Hagerty cover first-gen Camaros?

Yes. Hagerty covers first-gen Camaros with agreed value and has published market data on these cars for decades. They have specific experience with muscle car valuations, including COPO and Yenko documentation.
