A raw car that is now a collector car
The Viper had minimal safety technology, no traction control for most of its life, and a massive naturally aspirated V10. That rawness is exactly what makes it collectible.
Standard auto carriers apply depreciation curves to Vipers that do not reflect actual collector market prices. A Gen V ACR with low mileage is worth significantly more than its ACV. Agreed value specialty coverage prevents the shortfall.
Cooper's take
The Viper has always been an underrated collector car in terms of insurance attention. Owners tended to treat it as a weekend driver and forget about the agreed value conversation. Now that production has been over for nearly a decade, values have moved and the gap between ACV and actual market value has become significant.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Dodge Viper now a classic car or an exotic car for insurance?
Newer Gen V Vipers (2013-2017) are typically covered under specialty exotic programs. Gen I and Gen II cars may qualify for classic or collector car programs through Hagerty or American Collectors. The right structure depends on year, mileage, and condition.
ACR values, are they significantly different from standard Vipers?
Yes. The ACR (American Club Racer) package with its advanced aero, suspension, and Michelin Cup 2 tires commands a significant premium in the used market. A well-documented ACR with low mileage is worth materially more than a comparable non-ACR, and the agreed value policy should reflect this.
Are Viper parts still available?
Parts availability has become a real concern since production ended. The specialty insurance community understands this, carriers like Hagerty specifically account for parts scarcity in how they handle claims on discontinued vehicles.
